On the Eve of Election Day
I’m normally not a political person, but I thought I’d just drop a little food for thought here in the blog, before the deed is done tomorrow. Nothing revelatory, but I wanted to say it nonetheless.
I know people on both sides of the political fence are fretting over the enemy–the opponent. I know it does make a difference, but it’s not going to be a drastic night and day difference, as most legislation has to make its way through Congress and the Senate before it even gets to the president’s desk. I have yet to see any president’s major plans make it through the works intact. Has anyone ever looked at the promises made by candidates, four years later, to discover how empty their promises were?
What bothers me is that once again, we have no real choice in candidates. Obama as a person I have nothing against, but his politics are frightening, and remember, he’s only in his first term as a senator. Likewise, McCain was a major goof on the other side of the fence–aging, and very “old school” in his ways, we could have used a far younger, more dynamic candidate in his place. Palin has done well for her own career thus far, but her inexperience is like yet another nail in the coffin for her side. Those who claim inexperience for her should also look to Obama.
There are no good alternate candidates either. Where’s a Ross Perot to shake things up? Why do we even need a two-party system anyway? We’re just a government of, by and for the career politicians, not the people. Why even bother voting when both major choices suck, and no alternates are worthy of a vote? It’s like my grandmother said 25 years ago: we no longer vote for the best, we vote for the least worst. Just wonderful…
