My friend Jon (in Connecticut) sent me the Delphi XM2GO XM radio receiver a month ago, and while I haven’t activated it yet, I’ve been able to play with it a bit using the preview channels and charging it in the car for awhile. Would this be any better than a standard XM receiver, such as my Roady2?
I’m not sure if I like the smaller display for car use, but this XM2GO kit included everything for home, car and portable use. (This includes home and car cradles, home and car XM antennas and power adapters, a remote control, ear buds, and mounting components for the car.) The built-in antenna picks up stations clearly even indoors. I’m really considering using this unit full-time and putting my Roady2 on the sidelines, small display letters aside. The display itself not only shows song and artist information, it also has something called Info Extras that lets you use a stock ticker for stock prices you choose, or such information as sports scores for the teams that you pick from a list.
One neat feature of the XM2GO is the ability to record up to five hours of XM programming in memory, and replay at any time. In addition, you can use a built-in timer to record shows unattended. Very neat! Program access is easy, too: the unit automatically divides the program into segments based on the information shown on the display. The unit also has the familiar Tune Select feature that lets you save favorite songs into memory, where the unit will beep and let you know which channel the song is on; it has been expanded to let you save favorite artists, so you can be alerted when any song by that artist is played on XM.
Overall it’s a neat package!
