I’m stuck here without my CDs–most of them are in storage right now. I’ve been increasingly interested in setting up some kind of central music server, and using a remote device via the network (hopefully wirelessly) to play the music on systems throughout the house. It’s just in the early planning stages right now, but I’ll keep everyone informed on the progress. My early sketches are below.

The XM/Sirius merger is nearly a done deal
This just in:

Apparently, the XM/Sirius merger deal is almost completed, just pending final FCC approval. I think this is one of the worst developments for satellite radio. Why?
Live from Daryl’s House
Quickshot: if you are a fan of Daryl Hall and Hall & Oates, be sure to check out Daryl’s new website: Live from Daryl’s House. Each month, Daryl features a new live performance as a webcast. I’m listening to Episode 1 right now from the archives, and I’m liking it quite a bit. Daryl’s still in fine voice, and it’s great to hear some new takes on his songs that I missed when Hall & Oates visited our area back in December. And it’s free–just register, and you can access all four episodes. Great stuff!
Burt Bacharach: Something Big
If you have been looking around the world to get CD versions of Burt Bacharach’s A&M albums, there is no better time than the present to grab yourself a copy of the Something Big box set, issued by Hip-O Select. Fortunately, Bacharach’s A&M albums are under the same corporate umbrella as his Kapp recordings from the 60s, so it was an easy task to put all of them into a box set. So, how good is this set?
The Time
I got hip to The Time back in 1981, back when I was just starting to explore more of Prince’s music. I didn’t know it at first, but it didn’t take long to figure out that The Time was part of Prince’s organization. Here, we’ll take a quick look at The Time’s four albums, a bit of a rewind through the past.
