The new features in Office 2007 made me want to give it a try to see if it was any kind of improvement on Office 2003. Thing is, whenever Microsoft releases an “upgrade”, it often becomes a downgrade. How does Office 2007 hold up? Read on, where I explain why I want to call this thing MS Office Vista.
Honda: Future Models
Anyone who knows me, knows that I’ve been a Honda fanatic for awhile. I’d struggled with other cars that left me stranded, or just fell apart well before their prime. (Don’t even get me started on our ’02 Malibu.) But I’m usually excited to see new Honda models come out, since Honda keeps their models on a strict 5-year schedule now. At the North American International Auto Show back east in Detroit, Honda has unveiled two cars. Read on for a couple of “borrowed” pictures!
Burt Bacharach: Something Big
If you have been looking around the world to get CD versions of Burt Bacharach’s A&M albums, there is no better time than the present to grab yourself a copy of the Something Big box set, issued by Hip-O Select. Fortunately, Bacharach’s A&M albums are under the same corporate umbrella as his Kapp recordings from the 60s, so it was an easy task to put all of them into a box set. So, how good is this set?
Amazon Kindle: do we need it?
The Kindle is a new e-book reader, this time being marketed by Amazon. While I am a fan of all things Amazon, I don’t feel they read the market (or lack thereof) correctly on this one. Basically, it’s another e-book reader, a product that has not exactly flown off of shelves in past iterations. And it has other restrictions, which make it a dubious purchase at best.
Open source software in 2007
Over the past couple of years, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the open source software available for the many websites I operate. For many years, I looked around the internet for ready-made applications, written either in Perl or PHP. And more often than not, was highly disappointed by what I’d found. In the past couple of years, though, I’ve come across many good applications that have proven to be attractive, professional, usable, flexible (easily modified) and relatively easy to install. Some have proven to be better than others, but overall, there has been a big leap forward in quality and popularity.
